Class Descriptions

Creative Movement – (ages 2-3) –Thirty minute class. This is a stimulating, fun and imaginative class that introduces the fundamentals of dance while nurturing a child’s agility and musicality. Students learn classroom procedures – student/teacher relationship; taking turns; participation and co-operation. By using games, props, toys and rhythm instruments, the class offers creative ways to challenge the child both mentally and physically.

Ballet/Tap combo – (ages 3-4 & 4-5) – Forty-five minute class. This is a motivating and exciting class that introduces young students to the fundamentals of classical ballet and tap. This class continues to aid in the child’s physical coordination and musicality while introducing age appropriate exercises to aid in fine motor development. Students will continue to use props and creative ways to aid in learning proper technique.

Ballet/Tap combo – (ages 5-7 & 6-8) – One Hour Class. This is a more structured class. The ballet barre and age-appropriate exercises are introduced as jazz becomes a part of this class. Class begins with a more in-depth ballet warm-up and is followed by barre work, center work and jazz fundamentals. Tap session may be held at the beginning or at the end of class.

Tumbling/Gymnastics – Levels 1-4 – Forty-five minute class (ages 3 and up). This class focuses on development of strength, flexibility and agility. The syllabus is based on floor gymnastics/tumbling techniques beneficial to dancers and cheerleaders. In the beginning level classes, students will learn basic tumbling skills including rolls, handstands, cartwheels and bridges. As students advance to higher level classes they will concentrate on walkovers, handsprings, aerial skills and advanced tumbling passes.

Ballroom – Classic ballroom and Latin styles taught in this fun and useful class for singles and couples. Classes are available for youth and adults.

Hip Hop – A blend of today’s high energy “street style” movement. The style boasts that everyone is capable of taking part and having fun! Performed to age-appropriate music.

 

Individual Performance Track Classes
These are our most structured series of classes. Students are involved in professional and pre-professional level classes which focus on technical training and performance. Students are encouraged to train more than one day per week if wishing to pursue more rapid advancement.

 

Ballet 1-5 – The foundation of all artistic dance. The meticulous attention to detail makes it invaluable to any serious dancer. Techniques taught :Cecchetti, Vaganova and French.


Pointe – Approval required by the director. The natural progression of serious ballet students. Special care is given to the safety and well-being of each student. Their progress is closely supervised.

Tap 1-5 – A stimulating intricate style of tap that builds from rhythm and percussion.

Modern Dance 3-5 – Approval required by the director. A style of dance where the body is used to display an emotion, idea or theme, involving the use of fall and recovery and contraction and release. Techniques taught: Horton, Weidman, Limon.
