Guidelines/Policies

Please read the guidelines carefully. You will be required to sign that you understand the policies and agree to abide by them.

Registration:  A non-refundable fee of $20 per student or $15 per returning student is required yearly at time of registration.
Payment of Fees:  Tuition must be paid by one of the following three ways:

• Monthly-automatic bank account debit (you most sign an auto debit form)
• Semester payment (5 months)
• Yearly payment (10 months)

Tuition is neither refundable nor transferable. Monthly tuition will be debited from your bank account on the 1st day of each month from August-June. Monthly payment must be made by pre-authorized automatic monthly payment.

Costume & Recital Fees: Costume and recital fees for the year-end recital are due upon registration. No costume fees will be refunded after October 1, even if a student withdraws from the school.

Withdrawal and Refunds: There is a two-month minimum for all lessons. One-month notice from the first of the month is required to discontinue any classes. Withdrawal must be done in person or in writing. Withdrawal must be done at the school office and not with the teacher. Withdrawal must occur within the first 7 days of the previous month. To withdraw from classes a parent or adult student must:

1. Inform school administration in person or in writing, and
2. Complete and sign a withdrawal form provided by the school office

Holiday Closures: Notices will be posted prior to closures. Monthly tuition will not be adjusted, as the accumulated bonus classes will be applied.

Student Placement: Upon registering with AAD, we attempt to place the student in the class that best meets the background and goals of the child. Placement in classes is not based on age or previous dance training alone.

Parent Observation: It is difficult for students to maintain their focus during class with parents and family in the classroom; however, it is important that you have a chance to observe the progress of your child. We invite all parents and family to join us during parent view weeks. We do have video monitors in our lobby so that you may observe class without interrupting.

Weather Closings: AAD & ADPA follow the same schedule as Stanly County Schools in the case of inclement weather. If school is cancelled or dismissed early, there is no class held at AAD or ADPA. If you are unsure, please call the studio or check the website ‘news’ section for info.

Performance Opportunities/Recitals: City Youth Ballet is our pre-professional performing company designed to give our dedicated students experience in rehearsal work, auditioning, performing, and working together in a cast. Our competition dance company, “The Showoffs”, is comprised of dancers ages 6-18. They are involved in travel, classes, and competitions all over the USA. If you are interested in either of these groups, please contact your instructor. We produce two full-length stage shows which showcase all of our students. Our recital will be held in June at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center.

Students are not required to participate in our recitals; however, we feel that performance is a necessary part of dance education. Participants will pay a $50 costume/performance fee upon registration (per class registered in) along with a $25 recital fee. This fee is non-refundable after October 1.

Commitment: Our Fall/Winter dance session is based on a ten month period. We do ask that you consider this a commitment. Upon registering for a class, you are allotted that space for the duration of the dance session. We do not accept students who do not plan to complete the session. This is unfair to students who may be kept out of a class due to unavailable space.

Substitutions: The school reserves the right to provide a substitute teacher if the regularly scheduled teacher is ill or otherwise unable to teach classes.

Dress Code: Required dancewear and dance shoes must be worn to all classes. Failure to wear required dancewear to class could result in students being asked to sit out the class. Repeated failure to wear required dancewear could result in termination of lessons. Students are not permitted to wear jeans or shoes worn on the street or outdoors to any dance class. For safety reasons dancers are not permitted to wear jewelry. Hair must be tied back. Please see class schedule for class leotard colors. Ballet pink tights are to be worn in all classes; footless tights or no tights should be worn for tumbling classes.

Attendance and Tardiness: The school reserves the right to have students who come in late to class, sit out during that class period. Repeated tardiness may result in termination of lessons. A minimum attendance level will be required. Excusable absences (i.e. call the office prior to scheduled class time) can be made up within 4 weeks of excused absence, but may not be applied to future tuition. Make-up class appointments must be made with the office prior to attending the make-up class. If a student misses more than 3 classes without notice to the office, the school reserves the right to terminate lessons. Students with excessive absences after January will not be allowed to participate in the year-end dance recital.

Parent’s Responsibility to be Aware of Dates and Events: It is the responsibility of the parent or adult student to be aware of all school activities, such as viewing days, recitals, extra classes, and dates the school is open or closed. The school will post all such notices on their website as well as list most of them in this publication.

Care of Students: The school is not responsible for providing before or after class care for students. Students are not to be left at the school for excessive time before or after class.
