Voice and Piano lessons available:
Matthew Davis (bio attached) is now taking registration for private piano lessons. Please see Miss Hillary for specific information or to reserve a space. Mrs. Bambi will continue to offer piano lessons as well. We have recently had a great deal of interest for these classes. Music lessons are most definately beneficial to serious dance students. Mr. Edmund is now also offering voice lessons. These lessons are offered on Wednesday evenings or upon scheduling with Hillary. These lessons may be private of semi-private. Please see Hillary for more info.
North Carolina pianist Matthew Davis received instruction from The Julliard School alumnus Clifton Matthews and was a nominee for the Fletcher Foundation Scholarship at the North Carolina School of the Arts. He has participated as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra member at numerous functions including the Illuminations Festival 2003 in Manteo, North Carolina. In addition to his High School Diploma and Bachelor Degree at N.C. School of the Arts, Mr. Davis pursued a collaborative piano independent study under Canadian pianist Allison Gagnon. In 2004, he continued studies as a collaborative pianist at the Brevard Summer Music Festival and participated in master classes held by Ben Heppner, David Effron, and John Greer. As a soloist, he has also performed in master classes held by a few of the great pianists of our time such as Carlos Rodriguez, Emmanuel Ax, Anton Kuerti, and Pascal Rogé.
Subsequent to his training at N.C. School of the Arts, Mr. Davis received additional training from instructors at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor while performing as a soloist, collaborator, and choral pianist.
Mr. Davis is currently the pianist for Williamson’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Mooresville, N.C., staff accompanist at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, piano instructor through the Albemarle Academy of Dance and preparing for performance opportunities throughout the Piedmont area and greater.
The importance, presentation, making, and even meaning of music can vary from different people and from different places. As a music instructor, it is important to expose students to a variety of musical genres. Mentoring students to come face to face with their own musical preferences, while expanding their cultural perspective is essential to strengthening their never-ending interest in music.
As an artistic discipline, each learner will develop core principals to build upon for their own musical enjoyment. Principles include music reading, musicianship, technique, sight-reading, and guided practice while re-enforcing competency goals specific to each grade level for students under the North Carolina Board of Education.
